Honda Sensing™ is Common Sense
Remember when your parents implored you to “use some common sense”? The ability to think and behave reasonably, and to make good decisions, is not only crucial to civilized society but also is at the core of automotive technology today. For Honda, this automotive technology comes in the form of Honda Sensing™.
Honda Sensing is a suite of passive safety and driver-assist features available on select new models sold by our Miami Valley Honda Dealers around Tipp City, Richmond, and Springfield, OH. This high-end Honda technology benefits drivers by providing greater awareness of driving conditions around the vehicle. Specific features include the following:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System™
A radar unit and monocular camera scan forward traffic conditions. When the system determines a collision is possible with a detected vehicle, the integrated Forward Collision Warning system’s visual and audible alerts prompt the driver to take corrective actions. If the situation is not resolved, CMBS can apply different levels of autonomous braking action to help reduce vehicle speed and eventual collision forces, and therefore to help reduce the severity of a collision if the driver doesn’t take corrective action on his own.
- Forward Collision Warning (integrated with CMBS)
Forward Collision Warning uses the monocular camera to detect vehicles ahead and to determine whether a collision is likely. This reduces the stress of driving in traffic, while also contributing to an increased level of passive safety. If the system detects a vehicle and determines that a collision may occur (due to a speed differential between the two vehicles), it will trigger visual and audible alerts for the driver.
- Lane Keeping Assist System
This technology provides a less-stressful driving experience by reducing the need for steering correction movements and driving effort on the highway. LKAS uses a camera to read lane markings and uses the Electric Power Steering to assist the driver in maintaining the vehicle’s position within the lane.
- Road Departure Mitigation
Integrating Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation uses a monocular camera to identify lane features and identifies the lane. If Road Departure Mitigation determines the vehicle is about to leave a detected lane, it will provide steering assist (primary) and braking assist (in rare occasions when steering assist is not sufficient to avoid leaving a lane marked by a solid line) to help the driver stay on the road.
- Lane Departure Warning (integrated with RDM)
Lane Departure Warning is designed to alert the driver if the vehicle is leaving a detected lane without the turn signal being activated. The system functions at speeds from 45 to 90 mph on straight or slightly curved roads, alerting the driver of deviations from a detected lane.
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
Adaptive Cruise Control allows the driver to set a desired speed and following interval from a vehicle detected ahead, allowing the use of cruise control in light traffic conditions. This significantly reduces the driver stress of driving in traffic. Low-Speed Follow extends the automatic following capability to stop-and-go traffic situations (down to 0 mph).
Other Honda Safety Features Available at Our Ohio Car Dealerships
In addition to the Honda Sensing, many new Honda models come with the following safety features:
- Honda LaneWatch™
A right-turn signal will display a live video feed straight on your Honda’s touchscreen, revealing nearly 400% more terrain than a standard passenger-side mirror. Select 2017 and 2018 Honda models come with LaneWatch, so ask about your options when speaking with one of our Honda dealers in Springfield, OH.
- Blind Spot Information System
You no longer need to crane your neck when changing lanes thanks to Honda’s Blind Spot Information System. When you flip a turn signal, in addition to the typical click-click sounds, you’ll also hear a beep until your blind spot is clear of other vehicles or obstacles. The visually inclined will also appreciate a flashing icon on the side-view mirrors when a vehicle is in a blind spot.
- Cross Traffic Monitor
Select new Hondas will also come with available Cross Traffic Monitor, a system that makes reversing out of driveways and parking spots easier. Sensors around the Multi-Angle Rearview Camera detect approaching vehicles or pedestrians, then audibly notifies the driver with a series of beeps.
- Auto High-Beam Headlights
Available on certain 2017 and 2018 Honda models, Auto High-Beam Headlights clarify dark streets without the aid of a driver. When you’re traveling faster than 25 mph at night, these lights will change between low and high beams based on road conditions and if the system detects other nearby vehicles.
These Honda technologies aren’t meant to relieve a human of the responsibilities associated with driving a car; rather, they offer a non-stop support system to help drivers safely navigate the roadways with ease. Honda Sensing™ is common sense, and it is available on certain trims of the following 2017 and 2018 Honda models:
